"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament." (Cf. CCC 1601)
Love is the basis of marriage. One freely chooses another and commits oneself to her or to him. Love is expressed in the Christian marriage in the words: "I take you as my spouse. I promise to be true in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life."
1) Children
2) Fidelity
3) The unbreakable bond
The essential qualities of marriage are: unity and indissolubility (Cf. Can. 1056 CIC / 1983).
We are happy you have chosen to be married in the Catholic Church. Know that the Church supports and cares about you and your marriage! And we look forward to preparing you for one of the most wonderful experiences of human life: “Celebrating your love in marriage and God’s presence in your lives”. Your wedding will be part of a long tradition of weddings celebrated at Riverstown Parish (Riverstown – Sooey – Gleann).
Engaged couples are asked to contact the Parish Office on 071 916 5144 / 083 021 7508 as soon as they begin plans for their marriage. No date should be set or reception hall reserved until such time as the couple meets with a priest and their freedom to marry in the Catholic Church has been confirmed.
Three months notice is required for weddings and the Parish Booking Form is available on request or you can download it from our website.
Couples are requested to do a Pre-Marriage Course soon after they become engaged, as couples gain most if such a course is done well in advance.
